The PS5 has sold 61.7 million units since its launch in 2020, as shown by Sony’s 2024 corporate report. That is 61.7 million PS5 consoles sold through to consumers as of June 30th 2024.
Sony’s data shows that PS5 had sold through 56 million+ units as of April 30th, 2024. Sell-in was more than 61.7 million as of June 30th, 2024. So it looks like PlayStation fans have bought 5.1 million PS5s between the end of April and the end of June 2024.
Although the PS5 is selling very well, it still lags behind PS4 sales. PS4 had sold 60.4 million units two years after launch. And for the same period – 4 years after launch – PS5 had shifted about 83.8 million units according to Sony’s figures.
PS5 sales were hindered early on by supply chain issues resulting in the console being difficult to get. Then PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan announced the shortage of PS5 consoles is over in January 2023. Just before his retirement, Jim Ryan said the PS5 was “well on track to be [Sony’s] most successful console ever.“
Sony’s figures also show that PlayStation Network (PSN) had 116 million monthly active users. An increase of 8 million since a year ago.
The PlayStation maker has recently revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro. A mid-generation refresh of the PS5 that offers better graphical, performance, ray tracing and more frames per second for smoother gameplay.
