Shards of a Star is a side quest in Assassin’s Creed Origins The Hidden Ones DLC. Shards of a Star is unlocked during one of the main story missions on The Hidden Ones when Gamilat finds the Scroll of Thoth. Gamilat gives the Scorll of Thoth to Bayek who must unlock it’s mystery.
Once Gamilat gives you the Scroll of Thoth you will have the Shards of a Star quest available and you will be given the Scroll of Thoth quest item in your inventory.
Open your inventory and read the text on the Scroll of Thoth.
Nut, the goddess of the night, spat and a
Ball of flame crashed into the Earth.
Sky-metal, stronger than strong,
Fashioned into two bright daggers,
By Ptah, god of the forces
Ptah asked ra, “Where shall I hide them?”
“Light will show you the way,” said Ra.
And Ra gave him a container for light,
The Crystal of Thoth.
He took the crystal to Thoth’s Temple
And encased it within the roots
Of the Tree of Life
Born at his Temple
That none unworthy shall find it.
From reading the text we know that we have to go the Temple of Thoth and find the tree of life.
The Temple of Thoth is located in central Arsinoe Nome, there is a fast travel at the temple if you have it unlocked, otherwise you’ll need to jump on your trusty mount.
Once you are at the Temple of Thoth, use Senu to locate the Tree of Life. It is hard to miss as it is a massive tree and it’s pretty much right in the center of the Temple.
Head to the Tree of Life and at the bottom of the tree you should see a shrine looking thing with two shot pillars on either side. In front of this shrine you should be able to see what looks like a stone tablet covered by some of the tree trunk/roots.
Use your sword to clear the tree trunk/roots and you should now be able to pick up the Crystal of Thoth.
Once you have picked up the crystal, the next quest step will be to use the crystal on the Obelisk. The Obelisk is the tall black and gold pointy thing where the fast travel point is. Head to the obelisk and climb to the top and then use the Crystal of Thoth.
Once you use the Crystal of Thoth you will see two light beams shining down from the obelisk to either side of the Tree of Life. Jump back down to the tree and you will notice the two light beams are being reflected by two mirrors, one on the left of the tree and one on the right.
This next part of the quest requires you to solve the Light of the Crystal puzzle. This part is very like some puzzles you would see in the Uncharted games. The idea is to move each of the mirrors so the two light beams are pointing towards the doorway in the Tree of Life (the one where you picked up the Crystal of Thoth).
In front of each of the mirrors you will notice three statues, two of the statues on each side will be covered in cobwebs, you need to climb to the top of these statues and use your torch to burn away the cobwebs so the light can reflect.
Once you have the cobwebs removed from the top of the statues we can correctly position the mirrors so the light beam shines on to the doorway.
We’ll start with the mirror on the left hand side of the Tree of Life.
Position the mirror so that the beam of light is reflecting off of the right most statue and shining down on to the doorway in the Tree of Life.
Now we’ll do the right hand side mirror.
Adjust the mirror on the right hand side so that the beam of light is reflecting off of the left most statue and shining down on to the doorway in the Tree of Life.
You have to position the light beams fairly precisely for it to work. You’ll know when you’ve got it correct as a short cut scene will play showing the secret doorway opening. Run round to the doorway and it will now be open.
The last thing left to do is to enter the secret doorway and head down the stairs. You will see a pair of dual swords sitting at the base of a statue. Pick up the dual sword and the quest will be complete.
For completing the Shards of a Star quest and solving the mystery of the Scroll of Thoth you will recieve 8000xp and the rather awesome loking legendary dual sword called Blades of Thoth
