A brand new Astro Bot game from Team Asobi has been announced for PS5. The game was announced at last night’s State of Play and will jump onto PS5 this year – on September 6th.
Although news of a new Astro Bot game is very exciting, there is no mention of the game being compatible with PSVR2 whatsoever. Astro Bot Rescue Mission was definitely one of the best PSVR games and it would be an absolute shame if we don’t get to experience Astro Bot on the PSVR2. Even if it is just some kind of hybrid experience.
Astro Bot will be a super-sized space adventure and his biggest adventure to date. Astro Bot took the world by storm in his first proper outing on PSVR in Astro Bot Rescue Mission. The lovable little bot returned in Astro’s Playroom, a free game that launched alongside the PS5 to showcase the DualSense controller features.
In Astro Bot, players will explore six galaxies and more than 80 levels in search of Astro;’s lost crew who are scattered over the levels. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, and hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!
To help him on his mission, Astro can use 15 new abilities that offer varying and unique play styles. These abilities take full advantage of the DualSense controller including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. SO you can feel every step along your journey.
Among the many new powers and abilities, Astro will have at his disposal you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction.
Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights, while remaining accessible for all. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on these and let us know how they feel.

Team Asobi has also cranked up the number of baddies Astro will have to defeat. There are over 70 new types of enemies including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Defeating each boss will reveal a wonderful secret according to Team Asobi although they are keeping coy about what that secret might be.
Astro Bot will feature cameos from famous PlayStation characters
During Astro’s newest adventure, he will reunite with friends from the PlayStation Universe. The trailer shows only a small handful of the PlayStation heroes to make an appearance but Team Asobi has doubled down on the cast. Team Asobi hopes to “delight every PlayStation fan out there” with the cameo appearance of PlayStation characters and has alluded that they will play a bigger role in helping Astro save the day.
Astro Bot will be out on PS5 on September 6th 2024.
