The hugely anticipated game from Dark Souls developer FromSoftware has finally gotten a release date and a gameplay trailer. Elden Ring, a collab between From Software, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and George R. R. Martin will launch on PS5 and PS4 on the 21st of January 2022.
Revealed during yesterday’s Summer Game Fest, Elden Ring also got a gameplay trailer that looks seriously amazing. Check it out below.
Elden Ring is certainly a game to get excited about. The trailer looks astonishing and is filled with epic gameplay and fantastic-looking creatures that you would expect from a fantasy RPG game.
Considering who is working on the game, we should definitely expect a superb fantasy world. The game’s website reveals that the new fantasy world is called The Lands Between.
Journey through the Lands Between, a new fantasy world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the influential DARK SOULS video game series, and George R. R. Martin, author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
In Elden Ring, players will have to “unravel the mysteries fo the Elden RIng’s power.” There will also be adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivation for helping or hindering you. And of course, fearsome creatures.
Elden Ring will have PvE multiplayer
The game’s official website further reveals that Elden Ring will have some kind of multiplayer component. Possibly some like co-op PvE. “Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players.” reads one of the descriptions on the website.
An article on Gamesradar confirms that the multiplayer aspect of Elden Ring will likely only be “co-operative” and there won’t be any PvP. For now at least anyway. The article also confirms that up to four players can join one world, so you can get three mates to help you.
It also sounds like Elden Ring’s world will be the biggest one yet created by FromSoftware. The game’s website states that you can traverse the world on foot or on horseback, it also sounds like combat while on a horse will be important.
The website describes various breathtaking geographical regions. From Grassy Plains to suffocating swamps and spiralling mountains and foreboding coastlines. There will also be “other sites of grandeur on a scale never before seen in a FromSoftware game.”
Define your own playstyle
Creating your own character builds and playing the way you want to play has always been synonymous with FromSoftware’s RPG games. And it sounds like Elden Ring will enhance this even further with genre-defining gameplay.
“Create your character in FromSoftware’s refined action-RPG and define your playstyle by experimenting with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities, and skills found throughout the world,” says the games website.
As with any good RPG, it appears that Elden Ring will have several ways to approach combat and exploration. You can either charge into battle, sword out attacking any enemies that stand in your way. Or choose a stealth approach and pick off enemies one at a time. Or, call in allies to aid you in battle.
Many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat.
Elden Ring Release Date
Elden Ring will launch on PS4 and PS4 on the 21st of January 2022. Although we’re still a wee bit away from release yet, there will undoubtedly plenty more to see from Elden Ring.
I’ve never really had the patience for Dark Souls games before, or games like Bloodbourne, I generally find them to be just a bit too difficult for my liking. But I did complete Demon’s Souls PS5 Remake. I’ve always wished I was good at Souls-like games as I love the combat, the settings and the lore.
With Elden Ring seemingly being a vast open-world (which I love) and the fact you can call in people to help you. I think I will definitely be giving Elden Ring a go when it releases early next year.
