Santa Monica Studio’s epic God of War Ragnarok has debuted at the top spot of the UK all-formats boxed game charts. God of War Ragnarok launched last week on November 9th and has knocked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare off of the top spot.
Kratos and Atreus’ latest adventure also fends off competition from Sonic Frontiers which debuted at number four.
The latest God of War Game is also sitting at the top of the PS4 UK boxed charts and the PS5 UK boxed charts knocking Modern Warfare 2 from the top spot on each of these platforms’ charts as well.
God of War Ragnarok has also outsold God of War (2018) in physical sales. The 2022 title sold more copies on day one than the 2018 title did in one week and has become the series’ biggest-ever launch in the UK.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, God of War Ragnarok is the second biggest boxed game launch of the year in the UK. Just behind FIFA 23. The action-adventure game which sees Kratos and Atreus go on a mythical journey for answers also sold more boxed copies in its first week than Elden Ring, Modern Warfare 2 and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
God of War Ragnarok, alongside Horizon Forbidden West, is also dominating nominations at the 2022 Game Awards. With the PlayStation exclusive titles up for a total of 16 nominations.
