Hot off the heels of the next God of War game being delayed to 2022. PlayStation Studios Head Herman Hulst has also cast a wee bit of doubt on whether Horizon Forbidden West will release this year.
PlayStation fans were recently treated to 14 minutes of new gameplay for Aloy’s next adventure. The game certainly looks fantastic, and so does Aloy. And I for one can’t wait to join Aloy as she explores the old ruins of the Forbidden West.
Guerilla Games’ newest open-world, post-apocalyptic adventure, should, by all accounts be ready to release this holiday season. However, in a recent interview with the PlayStation Podcast, Hulst said “But that isn’t quite certain yet.”
“For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.” Hulst told PlayStation communications Director Sid Shuman.
Personally, I don’t think there’s anything to be worried about. Sony will absolutely want a major game to be released during this year’s holiday season. But you never know with game development. Clearly, Covid-19 has had an effect and with staff working from home perhaps development hasn’t quite proceeded as rapidly as expected.
Herman Hulst also mentions in the interview that both Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War game have been affected by access to performance capture and talent. So it could be that some motion capture work is behind schedule.
I really, really hope that Horizon Forbidden West does release this year. After the awesome gameplay reveal I am even more eager to see what new adventures await for Aloy.
Horizon Forbidden West, when it does release, will be available on both PS5 and PS4.
