You wouldn’t be blamed for forgetting about Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Ollnine game. The developer hasn’t said much of anything at all about it, apart from confirming its existence. And aside from a leak of very early footage from the game and a possible leaked title of “Hunters Gathering” (although Hunters Gathering is the name of a settlement in Horizon Zero Dawn), there hasn’t been much info about the game at all.
However, journalist Jason Schreier talking on the Spawn Wave podcast on YouTube, thinks that the Horizon Online multiplayer game will be Guerrilla Games’ next release.
“Guerrilla is in an interesting place… because they’re working on this Horizon Online game. Their plan, Horizon Online is their next project not whatever the third single-player game looks like.” Schreier said.
Earlier this year PlayStation laid off about 900 workers and cancelled some of their planned live-service games. Jason Schreier also said that the Horizon Online game wasn’t one of those cancelled and was still in development.
How far into development Guerrilla’s Horizon Online game is is anyone’s guess. But with the early footage that was leaked, it had to have been in development at least for a while.
As for fans hoping for a third Horizon single-player game, it’s coming but according to Jason Schreier it is “a ways off.” So we probably won’t see that until maybe the PlayStation 6 generation.
Fans of the Horizon franchise have got plenty to look forward to though within the next couple of months. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered hits PS5 and PC on October 31st. And LEGO Horizon Adventures is due to arrive on PS5 on November 14th.
