Wednesday’s PlayStation Showcase had quite a few reveals, the biggest being the gameplay reveal for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Another game that was announced during the showcase, and that has subsequently garnered much discussion is Phantom Blade Zero.

Phantom Blade Zero is a fast-paced action game from Chinese developer S-Game that looks set to be quite popular.

Just before the developer’s name pops up in the trailer, we can see a character running. For a moment I actually thought this was going to be Ghost of Tsushima 2, which was rumoured to be at the Showcase under a different “Ghost of” name.

I was a bit disappointed when it turned out to not be a Ghost of Tsushima sequel.

Still, disappointment aside Phantom Blade Zero does look really cool. The game is set in a world known as Phantom World and the trailer shows off some really, fast-paced, awesome-looking combat. Phantom Blade Zero will be set in the semi-open world of Phantom World, a place which has a dark and bleak visual style.

Although the visuals may seem dark and bleak, developer S-Game says this is so characters with hearts of gold stand out more. And it acts as a reminder to never let your guard down. The game will also feature a lot of kung fu and steampunk visuals which the developer calls “Kunfupunk.”

There’s no release date or window yet for Phantom Blade Zero but you can read more about the game on the PlayStation Blog or on the official website. Phantom Blade Zero will be heading to PS5 when it comes out.
