Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is “not cancelled” Ubisoft Says

The Prince of Persia remake still has a little life left yet it seems

It seems like an eternity ago that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was first announced. Since then it has been delayed, delayed again and the studio developing it has changed.

The remake which appears to be in development hell has probably been forgotten about by most people and most people may well have thought the game was cancelled. But Ubisoft has posted on their website to remind us that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is very much alive and is “not cancelled.”

In an article titled “Information on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake” the publisher says that the game is not cancelled and is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal. The remake was previously in development at Ubisoft’s Mumbai and Pune studios and it is not known if any of these studios are still making some kind of contribution.

In the same article, Ubisoft also says that there are no plans to remake any of the other Prince of Persia games beyond Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

And that’s about it really. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is not cancelled but there is currently no release date or even release window. The game was originally slated to release only on PS4 (presumably, it would have been playable on PS5 via backward compatibility) so hopefully these delays and switching of studios will see a full-fledged PS5 version.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Had Apparently Gone Gold

In another turn of events for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, insider Lance McDonald has claimed on Twitter that the game, at some point, was finished, went gold, passed Sony’s certification process and was uploaded to the PSN Servers. And apparently, some clever people were able to preserve the game and somehow de-crypt it using their pre-order encryption keys McDonald claims.

If what Lance McDonalds says is true then what the hell happened to this game indeed?
