Sony has revealed the PS5 Pro. The mid-gen refresh will be about double the power of the PS5 according to Mark Cerny’s technical presentation. But with more power comes more cost to the consumer and PS5 Pro will not be cheap.

The price has been revealed as £699 or $699. If you are in Europe it is even more expensive at a whopping €799. And the PS5 Pro does not even come with a disc drive. There is no disc and digital version here only the digital version. In the UK the add-on disc drive will cost you an extra £100. So if you are like me a prefer disc games, then the PS5 Pro is going to cost £800.

Although I am not keen on the PS5 Pro’s price, I do like the sound of the beefed-up tech. Bigger GPU, advanced ray-tracing and AI upscaling provide a boost to the PS5 Pro’s performance. In his presentation, Mark Cerny says that the PS5 Pro will “narrow the gap” between choosing fidelity or performance modes in games.

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

As well as the fancy new features to boost graphics and performance, the PS5 will also come with a 2 TB hard drive. That is more than double the base PS5’s 825GB. We assume that the PS5 Pro will also be able to be upgraded with an M.2 SSD just like the regular PS5.

Several games will take advantage of the new PS5 Pro’s power including Spider-Man 2, Gran Turismo 7, The Last of Us Part 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

The PS5 Pro will launch on November 7th with pre-orders starting on PlayStation DIrect on September 26th. Pre-orders will begin on October 10th at other retailers.
