A brand new Ratchet & Clank game will be making it’s way to PlayStation 5. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced at yesterday’s Future of Gaming event. According to the PlayStation Blog, the game is a brand new intergalactic adventure from Insomniac Games.
The announcement trailer shows some awesome looking gameplay and the game showcases what is possible for games using the PS5’s ultra-high-speed SSD drive.
The trailer shows Ratchet instantly transporting to other dimensions mid-gameplay. Usually, this type of thing would require a hidden load screen or some other mechanism to load content in the background.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will also take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s new DualSense controller. Utilising the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to bring combat to life and add powerful sensations that increase immersion in combat.
Interdimensional Awesomeness
A decent bit of gameplay was shown at the PS5 event. The graphics look totally stunning with some really nice reflections on the floors and surfaces. The gameplay looks pretty cool and combat is sure to feel spot-on with the DualSense controller.
During the gameplay footage, the weapon or ability wheel could be seen selecting some items. The first item I saw was the Topiary Sprinkler which had a leaf icon. Topiary is the art of clipping Shrubs and Trees into ornamental shapes. The second item was the Shatterbomb, a grenade weapon which Ratchet used to shatter an enemy into tiny pieces. Awesome. The third item was The Enforcer which looked like some kind of powerful energy weapon.
During this exciting looking gameplay, Ratchet was opening up Rifts then transporting to different dimensions instantly as a result of the PS5’s super-fast SSD. This shows that the PS5’s SSD isn’t just great at reducing or eliminating loading times, it can actually bring a whole new dimension to gameplay.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is certain to be a fantastic addition to the ever-growing number of games being announced for PS5. No release date has been set yet so it is currently not known how long we will have to wait to get our hands on this fantastic looking game.
