Sony has removed PS Now 12 month subscriptions as fans stack up to save money on PS Plus Premium

Looks like Sony has pulled a fly one and has removed all PlayStation Now 12 month and 3-month subscription options. It looks like the 12-month subscription h amidst a flood of PlayStation fans looking to save big bucks on the new PlayStation Plus tiers, which launches in June.

PlayStation fans over on the r/PS5 subreddit had come up with the shrewd idea to stack up on yearly PlayStation Now subscriptions before the new PS Plus service arrives. The reason being is that Sony stated when they unveiled the revamped PlayStation Plus that: “PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.”

So savvy fans thought they would stack up on £50/$60 12-month PS Now subscriptions prior to the new PS Plus launching, thus saving them quite a bit of cash. As there £50/$60 PS Now subscription would transfer into the PlayStation Plus Premium tier, which is worth £100/$120 per year.

Sony pulls a fly one by removing 12 month PS Now subscriptions

Now it looks like Sony has pulled a bit of a fly move and removed all mention of the PlayStation Now 12 month subscription from the PSN and the PlayStation.com website. This means that fans hoping to buy up a bunch of PS Now yearly subs to save on the PS Plus Premium tier can now no longer do so.

It looks like Sony is making sure that no one else can use this cheeky method of saving money on the new PlayStation Plus Premium Tier. The PS5 maker has removed the ability to buy a 12-month PlayStation Now subscription from pretty much everywhere. They had already started to remove PS Now subscription cards from UK and US brick and mortar retailers a while ago.

Heading to the PlayStation Now app on PS5 or PS4 to buy a 12-month subscription is no good either, as this only lists the 1-month option as well.

It seems you can’t even rejoin PlayStation Now if your previous 12-month subscription has just run out. My PS Now subscription ended on 31st March, I received a rejoin email dated 1stt April which does show the 12-month option. However, clicking this just re-directs to the playstation.com PS Nowe webpage were – you guessed it, you can only buy the 1-month option.

It looks like Sony has quickly and quietly pulled a fly one by removing the 12-month P{layStation Now subscription option. It is not known if fans who have stacked up potentially years’ worth of yearly PS Now subs will actually see those transfer to PlayStation Plus Premium. Sony’s statement when it revealed the new PS Plus tiers was that PS Now customers will transfer over to PlayStation Plus Premium, with no increase to their current subscription fees “at launch.” I think the “at launch” part could be very important here. And fans who have stacked up PS Now subs hoping to save a pretty penny over the course of several years may find they still have to shell out extra anyway if they want the PlayStation Plus Premium tier after the initial subscription expires.
