It seems that some PS5 users have spotted PS3 games on the PS5 PlayStation Store. Naturally, screenshots were taken and shared to Twitter, which fuelled more rumours of older games coming to PS5.
The PlayStation 3 games that people are finding on the PS5 PlayStation Store are Dead or Alive 5, Bejeweled 3 and a couple of Prince of Persia games.
Eager to find out if this was just some kind of glitch or error that would quickly be fixed, I went onto the PS5 store myself.
I was able to search for and find Dead or Alive 3 using the PS5’s search function.
Bejeweled 3 also appeared in the search results.
I was not able to find any of the Prince of Persia games in the UK/European store. But here’s a screenshot from @Adventkamen on Twitter. The screenshot shows search results for the PS3 listing of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.
The games show up in the search results with associated prices and clearly marked with the PS3 platform. Dead or Alive 5 is priced at £7.99, Bejeweled 3 is priced at £5.99 and the Prince of Persia games are priced at $17.99 and $13.49.
Sadly though, when you access the games product page, there is no option to purchase them. You can however add them to your wishlist or your favourites.
The games’ product pages feature a generic background image and there are no game screenshots or trailers which you normally get with other games on the PlayStation Store.
However, the games do have a game description and publisher and release date information.
Could PS3 games be coming to PS5 via backwards compatibility?
Like myself, you are probably wondering what these PS3 games appearing on the PS5 store means. None of the games that have cropped up in PS4 search results is available on PS Now (apparently Dead or Alive 5 is on PS Now in the US but not Europe.)
It could be a simple glitch or error, these things do happen from time to time. Right now though, fans are hoping that Sony is actually going to bring older generation PlayStation games to its newest console.
