An update by Sony Interactive Entertainment chief Jim Ryan has provided some targeted launch dates for the new PlayStation Plus subscription service. The new PS Plus service essentially merges PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus.

Sony’s new PlayStation Plus will come in three tiers:

  • Essential – provides all of the benfits that PlayStation Plus has just now. Will cost £49.99 yearly.
  • Extra – All the benfits of essential and up to 400 PS4 & PS5 games to stream or download. Costs £83.99 yearly.
  • Premium – All the benefits of Essential and Extra plus 340 additonal games including: PS3 games for cloud streaming and classic PS1, PS2 and SPS games for streaming or download. Costs £99.99 yearly.

Today, Sony has updated its original PlayStation Blog article and announced the targeted launch dates for the new PS Plus service.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe – targeting June 22, 2022

Sony has said that they will provide further information on the new PS Plus service and tiers clsoer to launch. One thing I want to know is will there be an upgrade option if you are currently subscribed to PS Plus.

My PS Plus subscription does not expire until December this year. I would like the option of paying the extra £50 to upgrade to the new PlayStation Plus premium tier. Hopefully, they tell us that information soon.
