Sony is banking on the PlayStation VR2 being the next hot tech item as it plans to increase production. According to an article on Bloomberg, Sony is planning to manufacture 2 million PS VR2 headsets by March next year.

The PS5 maker’s PS VR2 headset began mass production in September according to the article and Sony has stated that it will launch in “early 2023.”

The previous PlayStation VR headset was launched in October 2016 but had sold just under 1 million units by February 2017. Sony is anticipating higher demand for PS VR2 though with the news of the increased production numbers.

The PlayStation VR headset has sold 5 million as of January 2020 according to data.

Sony recently published the “Feel a New Real” PS VR2 trailer, which has now been viewed over 2.2 million times on YouTube.

PS VR2’s specs are undeniably pretty beefy and are in comparison to current VR headsets on the market. PS VR2’s success will undoubtedly hinge on the price and the quality of the games – of which over 40 have been confirmed so far. Another factor in PS VR2’s success will be the availability of the PS5 console itself, which is still fairly hard to get in most places.

Sony has yet to reveal a price or release date for the PS VR2. But if Sony sticks to it’s early 2023 release window then we might see this by the end of the year or January 2023.
