A game based on a famous Spanish animated film is coming to PS5 later this year. Tad: The Lost Explorer and the Emerald Tablet is a 2D family-friendly action-adventure game. Tad, as it shall now be known because the name is really long is based on a Spanish animated character called Tadeo Jones.
As far as I can tell from translated press releases on the PlayStation Talents website, the game is based on or is an adaption of Tadeo Jones 3: The Curse of the Mummy. Not sure why they couldn’t just call the game that, maybe some licensing issue or something.
A family-friendly action-adventure
Tad is billed as a family-friendly action adventure where you solve puzzles, overcome challenges and have fun whilst helping your friends.
Here’s a synopsis of what Tad is all about from the official press release:
Tad: The Lost Explorer and the Emerald Tablet is a 3D action-adventure where players will visit iconic and exotic locations (Paris, Veracruz, Chicago and El Cairo) in an epic journey to retrieve the emerald tablet while saving his friends. This time, Tad has found himself in a huge mess. During one of his expeditions, our beloved explorer has unleashed an ancient curse and now some of his friends have fallen under a wicked spell. To save them, and save the world, Tad will have to travel with his long-life friends, solve puzzles, overcome platforming sections and climb buildings to solve the ancient mystery that pursues him.
And here are some of the games features:
- Join Tad in his quest to retrieve the Emerald Tablet. Explore four different locations (Veracruz, Chicago, Paris, El Cairo) with your friends in an epic journey.
- Immerse in Tad’s world. Traverse platforming sections, climb buildings and even swim among piranhas to solve an ancient mystery.
- Find the lost relics and collect brushes. Solve puzzles to discover every hidden treasure in each of the four locations.
- Enjoy reading Tad’s comic books. Follow the adventures of Tad, Sara, Jeff, and Belzoni in the comic books that you will find in the game.
Tad: The Lost Explorer and the Emerald Tablet is being developed and published by Gammerra Nest. Spanish company Mediaset Games has formed an alliance with PlayStation Talents to co-produce.
Tad is expected to release later this year. The English press release states that the game will only be on PS5. But the PlayStation Store concept page for the game suggests that it will be a PS4 game. Either way, it will be playable on PS5 anyway.
