At yesterday’s Ubisoft Forward Livestream, the publisher announced Immortals Fenyx Rising which will be coming to PS5 and PS4 this December.
Immortals Fenyx Rising was previously named Gods & Monsters, but the developers decided to change the name to fit what the game was about.
At the Ubisoft Forward event, we were shown the world premiere trailer and some very interesting looking gameplay of the new open-world, action-adventure game.
The gameplay is being compared to Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild game.
In Immortals Fenyx Rising you play as Fenyx, a new winged demigod on a quest to save the Greek Gods and their home from a dark curse.
Fenyx must reunite the Gods and defeat Typhon, the deadliest Titan in Greek mythology, in an epic fight for the ages.
The gameplay looks pretty incredible and the combat looks extremely fun. Fenyx can use her sword, a bow and can even call upon the power of the gods to defeat the many mythological creatures.
The game was developed by the same team that brought us Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, so you know the combat is going to be spot on.
Immortals Fenyx Rising doesn’t just contain some awesome looking combat though, the world, called The Golden Isle, is filled with “epic scale” puzzles inspired by Greek mythology.
These epic looking puzzles are found throughout the entire world and when successfully complete will earn you coins of Charon which can be used to upgrade Fenyx’s skills and abilities.
Side Note: Ubisoft always goes all out when researching there games. The Charon was actually a real thing in ancient Greece. Charon’s Obol was a coin placed in the mouths of dead people before burial, as a bribe to Charon, the Ferryman.
Power of the Gods
Immortals Fenyx Rising looks like it will have some great progressions and customisation options.
Fenyx’s upgrades and customisations take place at the base of operations called The Hall of the Gods, a central hub where Fenyx will reunite the ancient Gods.
From the gameplay walkthrough, it looks like you can upgrade skills and your Godly Powers.
Some of the screenshots released by Ubisoft also show some of the armour and weapon upgrades available in the game.
In fact, Immortals Fenyx Rising will be full of unique pieces of gear, cosmetic items and character customisation options. You can even create your own Fenyx at the start of the game and choose from various different character looks and styles.
The Golden Isle
The Golden Isle is where Fenyx lands, shipwrecked at the start of the game. The world is epic, stylised, vibrant and just looks stunning.
The Golden Isle has plenty of things to explore by the look of it. With tons of puzzles and secrets and there is even underwater exploration, making Immortals an open-world explorers dream.
It sounds like the exploration of this world will be key to defeating Typhon. The developers stated on the Ubisoft Forward Livestream that the entire world will be explorable from the very start of the game. Nice.
The world of Immortals Fenyx Rising is divided into multiple regions, all ruled by a different Greek God in need of Fenyx’s help.
Each region is full of challenging battles, puzzles and secrets to be found.
At least two of the regions were talked about in the Livestream:
- Aphrodite’s Plains – which features lush landscapes
- Hephaestus’s Forge – a mechanical world
Side Note: There was also a Hephaestus Workshop location in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Immortals Fenyx Rising looks like it will be an incredible game. It’s certainly got everything I look for in a game. Open-world, exploration, customisation, awesome battles, puzzles and some very tasty looking graphics.
I’m glad the game is coming out in December which means there’s not too long to go until I get a chance to play it.
Now all I need is the price, release date and pre-order info for the PS5.
