PlayStation has announced today that it has bought Liverpool, UK based game developer Firesprite Games. This acquisition makes Firesprite the 14th Studio to join the PlayStation Studios family.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst said that after several years of collaborating on games together, “I couldn’t be more delighted to welcome Firesprite to the PlayStation Studios family as our 14th studio! ”
Firesprite has previously worked on The Playroom for PS4 as well as The Playroom VR. Their other games include The Persistence VR and The Persistence Enhanced for PS5 amongst others.
Managing Director of Firesprite, Graeme Ankers said “At Firesprite, we’re always striving to bring something new to a game or genre and developing for new technologies is a driving force of our passion at Firesprite. Joining PlayStation Studios will allow us to amplify this passion, working more closely on cutting-edge hardware without any limitations and furthering our studio’s heritage of creativity and technical innovation to offer some truly unique experiences for PlayStation fans.”
Firesprite was founded in 2021 by members of Sony’s Liverpool Studio. Today’s acquisition announcement brings those talented individuals back into the PlayStation fold.
We will no doubt hear more from Firesprite and their future plans in the near future. Possibly even at tomorrows PlayStation Showcase.
