Insomniac Games are taking advantage of the power of PS5 with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The PlayStation Studios developer has harnessed the power of PS5’s tech to bring three graphical modes to Spider-Man 2 – all of which will have ray tracing enabled.

Replying to a post (tweet) by IGN, James Stevenson, Insomniac’s Director of Community and Marketing confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have 30 FPS, 40 FPS and 60 FPS modes – all with Ray Tracing.

Ray Tracing Everywhere

In an interview with IGN, Mike Fitzgerald the Director of Core Technology at Insomniac said the performance mode for Spider-Man 2 has ray tracing on by default. “Our performance mode for this title has ray tracing on by default. We’ve expanded ray-traced reflections throughout the game. It’s on the water and the oceans and gives a more realistic picture everywhere.”

There’s no mode of this game that has the ray tracing turned off

Insomniac’s Mike Fitzgerald further explains that in Spider-Man 2 no mode has ray tracing turned off. Because there is no need for it. “There’s no mode of this game that has the ray tracing turned off, no need for it. We’ve figured out how to deliver what we feel like is the right Spider-Man visuals and we want to make sure every player is seeing that.”

Finally with regards to ray tracing, Doug Sheen, Insomniac Games’ Senior Programming Director tells IGN that more things will be able to be ray traced in Spider-Man 2. “We’ve gotten a better handle on ray tracing and more things being able to be ray traced.”

So there you have it, ray tracing will be on by default in Marvel’s Spider-man 2. And couple that with all the other fancy tech and artistic stuff Insomniac is bringing to the game, Spider-man 2 will probably be one of, if not the, best-looking game on PS5.
