Master the skills of survival with Survivorman VR

Les Stroud is probably the best survivalist you’ve never heard of. From my brief 5 minutes of research and reading the press release for the upcoming PSVR2 game Survivorman VR, Les Stroud is very much like Bear Grylls. An outdoor survival expert who can survive in the wild for ages.

Just like Bear Grylls, Les Stroud also has a hit TV show. The Canadian show is broadcast around the world on the Discovery Channel and now it’s coming to PSVR2.

Survivorman VR: The Descent is based on the aforementioned Les Stroud TV series. The press release bills the game as a “chilling, virtual reality survival adventure sim.” Check out the release date trailer below to see some of the game in action.

Mastering the art of survival

In Survivorman VR you will fight frostbitten tooth and nail to find food, shelter and warmth in the bitter cold. Every decision you make can mean the difference between life and death. The journey you will make in the game isn’t just about making it back alive, it’s about mastering the art of survival.

I must admit the game already sounds quite intriguing. The game promises immersive environments and dangerous terrain to navigate. You will also have to gather resources and solve difficult puzzles. Sounds good so far.

In the game, you will have a device attached to your wrist that will measure two critical health metrics – body temperature and calorie level. If you keep these levels up, you’ll be fine and you’ll be able to battle towards survival and escape. But let the levels drop and you will succumb to the ravages of the cold and freeze to death.

It sounds like surviving in Survivorman VR could be pretty tough, thankfully, the man himself Les Stroud will help you with advice and some tips on how to survive the frozen wilds. The game will also feature tools based on real-life survival tools. You can use things like improvised paddles, snow shoes and hunting traps to catch your dinner. The game will also have challenges that are based on actual threats experienced by Les Stroud in his long career as a survivalist.
