Insomniac Games tweets that you’ll be able to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered for $20 via Miles Morales upgrade path.
PS5 launch title Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been causing a wee bit of controversy lately.
First, PS5 fans got a bit annoyed that the game was launching on PS4 after it was essentially revealed as a PS5 next-gen exclusive.
Then Sony revealed Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. A £70 game that comes bundled with a remastered version of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4.
Fans then got a bit miffed because there was no upgrade path to Spider-Man remastered if you owned the game on PS4. The only way to get the remastered version is to but Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.
But now, game developers Insomniac has informed Spider-Man fans via Twitter, that you can upgrade from Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 to the Ultimate Edition for $20.
there is no ultimate edition on PS4 though.
So you can get the PS4 edition of the game, upgrade to PS5 for free (if you get disc version, you must have a disc-drive PS5 tho!). Then from inside the game on PS5, you can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition (aka, download MSMR for $20)

Download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered for $20
The Insomniac tweet starts off by reiterating that there is no Ultimate Edition on PS4. The tweet then goes on to explain how to upgrade from the PS4 version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales to the PS5 version for free.
Then, once you are in the game on the PS5, you can then essentially upgrade tot he Ultimate Edition for $20. Basically buying Spider-Man: Remastered for $20.
What the upgrade price will be in British pounds isn’t known. But, it’s safe to assume it will be straight conversion. So, $20 will be £20.
Will This Spider-Man Upgrade Path Save You Money?
The short answer is, not really.
You would expect the PS4 version of Miles Morales to be a bit cheaper than the PS5 version, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
A quick search for the PS4 version of the standard edition of Miles Morales shows that the average price is £51.99. The same as the PS5 version. The Ultimate edition has an average price of £69.99.
So if you buy the PS4 version or even the PS5 version and then decide to upgrade to the ultimate edition for £20.00, you’re actually loosing about £1.99.
For that of you in the United States, the story is pretty much the same. Miles Morales launch edition is $49.99 for both the PS4 and PS5 versions. With the Ultimate Edition being $69.99 you’re not saving any money. Upgrading for $20 will cost the same as just outright buying the Ultimate Edition, to begin with.
The only way this upgrade path is beneficial is if you really can’t spare the extra £20/$20 for the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. But you might want to upgrade later.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is due to release on November 19th in the UK and Europe and on November 12th in the USA.
