Developers Have Brought Over 2,500 Games to PS5 Since Its Launch

With many, many more to come in the future

PlayStation 5 games

The official PlayStation Blog has published a new post which marks that next week is the third year since the PS5 launched. The PS5 launched on November 12th in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Folks in the UK and Europe didn’t get their hands on the new console until a week later on November 19th though.

The PlayStation Blog post says that in the first three years of PS5 PlayStation Studios and third-party developers have introduced more than 2, 500 games to the platform. That is a lot of games.

I was quite surprised by that number, I honestly would never have guessed that there were that many games for PS5. Granted, a lot of those PS5 games have also come to PS4. Nonetheless, that is still an impressive amount of games to produce in three years.

If that rate continues and let’s say the PS5 generation lasts for another 4 – 5 years, that could be over 7000 on PS5.

The PS5 has seen some pretty amazing games in the last three years. The recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Returnal, and Horizon Forbidden West to name just a few. And these are from Sony’s first-party studios, once you include games from third, then I think you will have to agree that the first three years of this generation have been particularly spectacular.

Of course, there are also amazing PS VR2 games like Walkabout Mini Golf, Horizon Call of the Mountain Red Matter 2 and much much more to consider. With the PS VR2 this generation and the PS5’s Dualsense with its haptics and adaptive triggers, you could say this generation has been very immersive.

A Legendary year for PS5 games with much more to look forward to

The first three years of the PlayStation 5 have been pretty good. But I think most gamers would agree that 2023 in particular has been legendary in terms of incredible new games coming to PS5. This year has brought us the aforementioned Spider-Man 2 as well as Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy, Baldur’s Gate 3 and many, many more superb titles. And 2023 isn’t over yet.

Upcoming PS5 games still to arrive this year include Arizona Sunshine 2 for PS VR2 and Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

2024 is set to be a pretty stellar year for games as well. Looking forward, there is Final Fantasy: Rebirth, Tekken 8 and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and that’s just in the first month or two of 2024.

With over 2,500 games already available on PS5 and potentially thousands more to come, this generation is looking like it might just be one of the best.
