Update: A Hungarian tech journalist called @Bate81 on X (formerly Twitter) has posted to say that The Last of Us Part 2 remastered for PS5 will be released in early 2024.
The post translated into English is: “Just so you know: The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be released in early 2024 (Sony sent out the code requester). This applies to the PlayStation 5 version, there is no news about the PC version yet.”
Sony is yet to officially reveal The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

The Last of Us Part 2 is getting a native PS5 version recent reports have suggested. The critically acclaimed sequel launched in June 2020 on PS4 – just 5 months before the PS5 launched. The Last of Part 1 got a full PS5 remake last year but Part 2 has only had the PS4 version – until now.
Reports of the native PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 stem from Twitter user PlayStation Game Size. @PlayStationSize is well known for posting about the size of upcoming PlayStation releases and is known for data mining the PlayStation database.
As Insider Gaming reports, @PlayStationSize posted a fairly cryptic message on X earlier today. The post contained the key art for The Last of Us Part 2 and the word “PS5” with a green tick. Perhaps alluding that they had found a PS5 version of the game in the PlayStation database.
InsiderGaming says that they confirmed with @PlayStationSize that the post was indeed referring to a PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2. The website further reports that they independently confirmed with their sources that the claim by @PlayStationSize was in fact real.
It is not currently known when the PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 will be officially announced. But InserGaming thinks that it could happen at this year’s The Game Awards.
According to Sony’s own data, The Last of Us Part 2 sold 4 million copies within 3 days of its release. It also achieved critical and fan acclaim achieving a Metascore of 93.
Remake or Remaster?
The Last of Us Part 2 getting a re-release on PS5 was inevitable. With the second season of the HBO show about to start filming, it makes sense that Sony would tie the two together just like they did with the remake of The Last of Us.
But will The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 be a full remake or just a remaster? That is currently not known but my bet would be on more of a remaster than a remake.
When The Last of Us Part 1 was announced, fans quite rightfully asked why? Centiment seems to have shifted a bit with this rumour though as many fans actually sem quite keen to replay the second chapter of Naughty Dog’s masterpiece.
But there is also the question of whether Sony will do the event thing an offer PS4 owners of the game a cheap upgrade. Or will they try and milk fans even more by selling The Last of Us Part to on PS5 for full price?
