PS4 exclusive Until Dawn is rumoured to be getting a PS5 and PC version. This news comes from the French site Dealabs. Dealabs have in the past accurately leaked the monthly PlayStation Plus games and more recently have revealed the full title of Death Stranding 2.
Until Dawn is a PS4-exclusive interactive drama horror game that was originally released in 2015. It was developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was recently revealed by the Hollywood Reporter that a film adaptation of Until Dawn is in the works, so this might be why a remake or remaster is coming to PS5. The film adaptation is reportedly being produced by Sony Pictures.
Dealabs believes that an announcement about Until Dawn on PS5 will come in the next couple of weeks. But the site is not sure if it will be a full remake of the game or a remaster for PS5.
Gaming outlet MP1ST.com is reporting that Until Dawn appears to have been removed from some PlayStation Store regions “so it can re-release it in a newer packaging and price.” On checking the UK PlayStation Store website, Until Dawn does indeed show as being unavailable for purchase. However, billbil-kun from Deallabs says that the unavailable for purchase message has been an issue for a while now.
Until Dawn is still available to stream via PlayStation Plus Extra. The game was also part of the PS5 PlayStation Plus collection. If you have it added to your library you can still download it, or stream it as my screenshot below shows.
Until Dawn on PS5
As of now, the Until Dawn coming to PS5 and PC is just a rumour, for now. But with a film in the works, it does seem likely that at least a PS5 remaster could be on the way. Sony brought out The Last of Us Part 1, a remake of the original game to coincide with the TV show. It has also brought out The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered ahead of the second season of the TV show airing.
There is also the rumoured Horizon Zero Dawn remaster that will no doubt be released just before the Netflix series.
So, based on Sony’s past strategy of releasing remakes or remasters to coincide with a game’s TV show, it does seem likely that Until Dawn will be getting a PS5 version.
