Some tech YouTubers have gotten their hands on the new PS5 Slim to give their thoughts and opinions on the new design.
YouTuber Linus Tech Tips has uploaded a teardown video for the new PS5 Slim model which you can watch below.
Overall Linus seems to be impressed with the PS5 Slim’s smaller and lighter redesign.
PS5 Slim – slimmer and a bit quieter
Here are some key takeaways I got from watching the video.
- PS5 Slim is a lot smaller than the leaked pictures suggested
- Front IO has changed. Sony has removed the front USB type A and replaced it with another USB type C. Useful for PS VR2 and other type C devices like a dock.
- PS5 Slim has increased airflow due to the new vent style
- PS5 Slim is slightly quieter overall than the original PS5
- Has about the same power consumption as the original PS5
The PS5 Slim is supposed to launch in the US first on November 10th. But Sony hasn’t officially announced this date for some reason.
There will be two bundles available at launch which have been confirmed. A Modern Warfare 3 bundle and a Spider-Man 2 bundle.
The new, slimmer and lighter PS5 model will also have 1 TB of internal storage. The Slim can also still be upgraded with a compatible M.2 SSD, just like the old PS5 model.
In terms of customisation, the PS5 Slim is still just as customisable as the original PS5. But, instead of replacing two console covers, the Slim’s new design with the black groove cutting through the case means that its console covers are in 4 pieces. Sony has said a variety of console covers for the new PS5 model will be available early next year.
One of the best features of the PS5 Slim in my opinion is the attachable disc drive. Both the disc version and digital versions are essentially the same. With the digital model, you can add the attachable Blu-ray drive if you want to make it into a disc version. And vice versa, you can detach the disc drive from the disc model.
The only downside to the attachable Blu-ray disc drive is that you need an internet connection to essentially link it to your PS5.
