Sony’s latest financial earnings data shows that the PS5 had sold 32.1 million units by the end of December 2022. PS5 had sold 17.3 million consoles by the end of 2021, so that’s an amazing 14.8 million PS5s sold in 2022 alone.
7.1 million PS5 consoles were sold in quarter 3, this was as PS5 stocks were improving and the lead-up to Christmas which helped sales further.
Sony financial data also shows that PlayStation Network monthly active users increased to 112 million. PlayStation Plus subscribers also increased by 1 million in the 3rd quarter of 2022.
In the data shown above, monthly active users on PSN dropped as low as 102 million in Q2 of 2022 but jumped significantly to 112 million in Q3. Clearly, the increased PS5 supply and the wealth of incredible games available on PlayStation have helped towards this increase.
PlayStation Plus subscribers also increased by 1 million in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and now stand at 46.4 million.
PlayStation Plus recently underwent a bit of a transformation and now has three different membership tiers. With PS Plus Extra and Premium offering a vast catalogue of games to download or stream.
