Rumours seem to be flying around that Sony would acquire Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios. However, Arrowhead’s CEO Johan Pilestedt said these rumours are “fake.”

With the success of Helldivers 2 both on PS5 and PC, fans have made the fair assumption that Sony will acquire the game’s developer Arrowhead Game Studios and bring them into the PlayStation Studios family. At least that’s what some rumours swirling around the internet seem to be saying.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt quickly quashed the rumours on Twitter earlier today. In reply to a fan who only seems to have said Sony’s acquisition of Arrowhead “should” happen, the CEO stated any such rumours are fake.

Although for now at least, Arrowhead seems to be denying any rumour of Sony bringing Arrowhead into the PlayStation family, that’s not to say it could happen at some point. Sony is known for buying studios that bring value to the PlayStation brand, and Helldivers 2’s popularity certainly seems to have done that.

And like everything else in this world, money talks. So it might transpire that at some point in the future Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt will be tweeting about joining PlayStation Studios.

PlayStation Studios recently announced that it was laying off about 900 workers and closing its London Studio.
