That’s some nice connections

The PS5 Showcase revealed quite a few new things about the upcoming PS5 consoles. We learned the prices and release dates, we learned about some new games and we got to see the back of the PS5 for the first time.

The PlayStation 5 consoles have seemingly gone minimalist at the rear. With only a smattering of connections on the back of the next-generation gaming machines.

Let’s take a look.

The back of the PlayStation 5 has the following connections.

  • AC Power Connector – standard kettle lead type
  • 2 x USB Type A ports
  • 1 x HDMMI 2.1 port
  • 1 x Ethernet port

There is also another little port or connection looking thing at the very top of the back of the console. But I can’t figure out what that is.

Anyway, that is the first look at the PS5’s rear connection.

The front of the PS5 consoles also has 1 x USB Type A port and 1 x USB type C port. Making three USB Type A ports in total. The same amount the PS4 Pro has.

We’ll no doubt learn more about the PS5 connections as soon as people start releasing hands-on videos and teardowns.

The PlayStation 5 certainly does have some very nice looking ports, I’m sure everyone is eager to stick their HDMI cable in or maybe even slip their ethernet cable into that very inviting connector.

As these connections are at the rear, they may be a bit tight, be careful not to damage your cable.

If you only have a tiny cable don’t worry, the PlayStation 5 has a USB Type C at the front.

Don’t forget to check out the PS5 prices and release dates and remember to take a look at the five PS5 launch games from SIE World Wide Studios. You can check out even more PS5 announcements from the showcase over on the PlayStation Blog.
