Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 was released just four months ago in October 2023. In that short four months, the amazing game has now sold over 10 million copies.
A few days after the game’s release, Sony and Insomniac announced that Spider-Man 2 was the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever. Selling 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale. Not long after that announcement came the news that the game had sold over 5 million copies in its first 10 days.
Now, just shy of four months since its launch, Sony’s latest financial results have revealed that Spider-Man 2 has soared past the 10 million mark as of February 4th. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki also revealed during the earnings announcement that the Spider-man game series has now sold over 50 million units across PlayStation and PC.
Regarding first-party software, the cumulative sales of Marvelʼs Spider-Man 2, which was released last October, exceeded 10 million copies as of February 4, and the Marvelʼs Spider-Man game series has now sold-through over 50 million units including sales from PC.

In December Insomniac Games suffered a massive hack that revealed quite a lot of information about Spider-Man 23 and upcoming projects. In the hack, it was revealed that Spider-Man 2’s budget was $270 million but the game ran over budget costing about $300 million to make. As Kotaku reported at the time, this meant that Spider-Man 2 had to sell about 7.2 million copies to break even. So it now looks like Spider-Man 2 is starting to become profitable for Sony and Insomniac.
Spider-Man 2 has seen great success since its launch. The game has had rave reviews, nominations for Game of the Year at The Game Awards and has topped the UK PS5 Boxed Charts.
Insomniac plans to launch a title update for Spider-Man 2 in March. The update will bring New Game plus and other new stuff to the game.
